Listing Details: 1959  '59 Plymouth Street Rod

SOLD! SOLD!
Description:

This '59 Plymouth Street Rod has less than 100 miles on restoration.  Over $38,000 (buyer gets all receipts) invested building this gorgeous car.  440-sixpack motor topped with an Offy and a pair of Edelbrock 650s.  B&M Shifted manual street/strip 727 transmission.  Stunning Prowler Orange paint in and out.  Beautiful custom interior with covered racing buckets.  Gas filler flap shaved from fender (gas filled in carpeted trunk).  All chrome and stainless restored to like new.  This is the best of the owner's impressive collection!

Body/Interior:

The complete interior was pulled out and the car was then re-carpeted.  The car now sits back in black.  New front and rear door panels were fabricated as was the rear package tray.   The rear seat was upholstered to match front bucket seats.  A Grant steering wheel greets the driver.  A custom console sits between the snug racing-style bucket seats. 3" Simpson quick detachable seat belts are in the front only.   The trunk lid is carpeted as well as the sides and floor and a matching bag for the jack and lug wrench.

Any rust areas were cut out and new panels put in.  Both front fender  tips under the chrome, both side rocker panels, and the floor in the front have been replaced with new metal.  This is not a bondo bucket or a scuff and shoot.  The car has absolutely no rust.  All window moldings , dash, and doors inside and out, under the hood and inside the trunk were all repainted as well.

Gas filler has been relocated to the gas filler.  All side chrome has been replated and stainless polished.  The trunk is rust free.  The show quality work is evident in the pictures.

Mechanicals:

Brakes are all new, including new brake lines to the wheels.

Torsion bar front suspension was retained, adjusted to clear the 17"X8" Cragars.  Leaf springs re-arched with added to accommodate 10" wheels in the rear.  All bushings were replaced front and rear, tracks straight and rides great.

Engine:

This '59 Plymouth was originally born with a 3 speed column shift behind a 231cu. in. flathead 6.   The engine, transmission and rear end were pulled in favor of a  440 6pack motor out of a 71 Road runner.  Drive train was rebuilt and installed using a K member from a 64 Chrysler Newport big block car.  The rear end also came out of the Newport, an 8 3/4" with 4:38 gears.  The Mopar 727A Trans was redone with B&M parts and shift kit.  A B&M manual ratchet shifter put this monster in any gear you tell it to.

The motor has .30 over Ross pistons at 9 3/4 to one comp. [needs premium gas] a 505 Mopar performance purple camshaft with matching lifters and springs.  She also sports Milodon hi-vol oil pump and aluminum timing cover.  An aluminum Edelbrock  hi-volume water pump, McCool aluminum radiator, and stainless flex fan keep her from ever overheating.  An aluminum catch can was installed to meet track requirements.

An Offenhauser low rise intake clears the the hood.  Dual 650 Edlebrocks with a Holly Red Electric pumps and half inch lines from tank to carbs handle fuel delivery.  It is dialed down to 14 psi for the street but will go to 20 if on the track.  For reliable spark , a complete MSD system was also installed.

All told, this Street Rod should run in the mid 11s at about 114 to 119 with the weight and modifications made to it, but it has never been put on the strip.  So, far she's seen a few cruise nights and a couple of Mopar Shows.  If you are looking for a head turner that is show AND go.  This is it!
