In 1970, Dan Gurney bought out Carroll Shelby and has been sole owner, CEO and Chairman of All American Racers ever since.  From its inception, AAR Inc. intended to build cars for its own racing teams and also for sale to customers.  He and Phil Remington began by preparing aptly named AAR 'Cuda and Challenger T/A's to race in the Sports Car Club of America's Trans American Sedan Championship for himself and other drivers like Sam Posey.

To comply with SCCA rules, Dodge built a muscle car version of the Trans-Am Series car for the street that was even wilder than the competition model, the 1970 Dodge Challenger T/A.  The race cars ran a destroked 305-cid version of Mopar's fine 340-cid V-8. It had a four-barrel carb and some 440 bhp.  The street T/As stayed with the 340, but upped the ante with a trio of two-barrel Holleys atop an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold.  Factory reported output at 290 bhp, actual horsepower was closer to 350 bhp. 

An uncommon vision in white, only 3.5% of the Challenger T/A's known to be ordered EW1 White.  Respected restorer Le Hodge of Hodge Mopar Restorations brought this fair skinned beauty back from a daily driven existence to the splendor you see before you.  Attention to detail is apparent here. The special T/A only exhaust manifold heat shields guard the plug wires against overheating.  The correct overspray on the T/A only exhaust manifolds is also present.  The PVC on the driver's side valve over is also painted engine color as it should be.

The restoration and body work done on this Trans Am inspired ride will pass the approval of the most critical eye. The top of the cowl is painted black as it should be.  The fenders are the original units, no tell-tale slots to accommodate the later 72-74 grill clips.  Any metal replacement that was needed used factory NOS panels.  The trunk pan is original, requiring only one all-metal patch in the center of the trunk. 

Like any good investment quality muscle car, this one is well documented by the original fender tag and the factory broadcast sheet.  We know how this T/A lived before she was given a second lease on life.  She was driven daily by one owner until parked in 1977.  From that day until she was restored to the condition you see her in how, she was a well preserved original car that happened to always be on the previous owners 'to do' list.  The current owner saw the respectable condition she was in and decided she deserved the good life of a fully-restored show piece.  So you know for certain, she appears as she did the day she left the Hamtramck assembly plant.

More than just a looker, she's sorted out, road-ready and waiting for someone to appreciate her, in your private showroom or on the open road.
