Rarely today do we find a truly original, un-molested Shelby. This beautiful GT-500 Fastback is certainly one. The current owner had persued this car for 25 years, witnessing the moment it went from an occasional fair weather driver to duty holding down the garage floor.  Even though the previous owner no longer wanted to drive the car, guzzled gas, a hassle for his kids to climb into the back, he was still unwilling to part with it.

Cold storage was a gift in disguise as the car escaped the typical  musclecar life. She sat for two decades, all original fiberglass, original body panels and floors. The completely intact interior is outstanding, with console, gauges, belts, shoulder harness, roll bar all all of it factory original.  She even still wears a full set of the coveted "Speedway 350" Goodyear bias-ply tires on factory rims and hubcaps.  All of it under a 'protective' layer of dust.  The current owner kept in touch, not begin too pushy, making certain that the car was still in the pristine original condition he remembered it in, no matter how many times the current caretaker told him "I'll never sell."  And he wouldn't have~ Until the wife got the idea to buy a piano...

...and the rest is history;).   

So this beautiful 1968 Shelby GT500 that shunned the limelight so long was recently treated to a high dollar repaint in the original lime gold metallic.  Under hood detailed original 428 Police interceptor with smog, air cleaner, carb, hoses, all factory correct.  The motor is still the original bore and stroke, runs strong and burns clean.  The body has never been apart, the motor has driven all 43,000 original miles without having to be pulled apart.  You don't know what a real factory 428 sounds like until you hear this one run.  All the mechanicals were gone through to ensure she could return to reliable street duty.  No "soft tissue" leakes or undiagnosed surprises here.

The photos were taken inside where she now lives and they simply don't do her justice.  Look past the stack boxes and lawn shots.  This lady is a diamond in need of a gold setting.  She is is well equipped too, 428-4V GT-500 engine, 4 speed manual transmission, power steering, power brakes, extra cooling package, heavy duty battery,  a 3.50 gear, tilt-away steering wheel, sport deck rear seat, and decore group. 

Unlike many Shelbys bought and sold in an age of profiteering this Shelby has a personal story, a living history, and great documentation.  The paper trail includes original build sheet, original window sticker, factory documentation letter from Ford Motor Company, Deluxe Marti report, and a place in the SAAC Registry.  I think you can even go see the piano she was once sold off to buy. ;)
