Description:

Black HEMI powered Mopars are among the most sought after muscle cars. One of fewer than 10 '68 Roadrunner 4spd hardtops known to exist, this example is a standout within this exclusive fraternity. Freshly rotisserie restored, this 'runner proudly wears all her original sheet metal and her original, factory installed drive-train. Her original fender tag shows the red accent stripe that sets off the redline bias-ply shod steelies. The only added feature is a column mounted tachometer. It all comes together in this car, desirable options, a ton of originality, and finely restored.

Here is the Fender Tag Decode for the car:

Exterior: Most restored cars start out a clapped out rust buckets, requiring extensive body panel replacement. Replacing quarter panels and trunk pans is a rite of passage for most Mopar restorations. That is why this car is so remarkable. She still wears 100% OF HER ORIGINAL BODY PANELS. This car was taken down to bear metal during restoration. There was no need for rust repair, panel patching, or crash repair. The the original moisture seals for the interior door seals are still intact. The original trim, grill, and bright-work were removed, polished, detailed, and reinstalled. The car was brought back to a showroom glimmer in her factory colors, Velvet black with red accent stripe, using state of the art two-stage paints. Just as harsh as black can be when revealing flaws in paint and body work, it is also brilliantly shows original panels and crisp factory lines.

Interior: The interior appears factory stock and highly original. All gauges and accessories work, including the added tachometer. The carpet and seat covers or new OE quality reproductions. The headliner, door panels, dash and the remainder of the of the trim are original to the car and in overall very good condition. The dash pad is original, still supple, free from cracks. The seat belt buckles have some crazing, consistent with an original pieces. The touch surfaces are very clean. Bright-work, bezels, and interior paint show well, with no significant scratches or excessive wear. The interior truly gives testimony to the fact that this was a very well preserved, street driven car during her life before restoration.

Engine Bay: This vehicle boasts 100% of her original drive-train; Engine, transmission, and rear-end. The VIN Stamps on the engine and transmission have been examined and confirmed original by an acknowledged Mopar expert. The drive-line assembly was completely rebuilt as part of the restoration, the still boasting her factory specified 426 cubic-inch displacement. All the internals, rods, crank, pistons, etc. are original to the car. The original intake, carbs, starter, and alternator have all been rebuilt/reconditioned and reinstalled in the car. A factory correct replacement fuel pump was installed, the original set aside. The exhaust manifolds are OE correct reproductions. She sports a new sealed battery, giving you modern reliability. All the hard to find OE correct components are present and accounted for in a package that can still be driven and enjoyed.

Undercarriage/Chassis: This is where most restorations fall short. People spend money on the top side and pay not attention to the undercarriage, suspension, brakes, exhaust, etc. There are no half-measures here. The owner of the rare Hemi, took pains to make sure no nut went unturned, while still being careful not to restore the originality out of the vehicle. You ever wonder what they mean when a car ad reads “factory undercoat”? We commonly suspect that the floor pans were sprayed with goop to hide years of abuse. Check out this underbody. THIS is what a genuine factory undercarriage looks like. Why spend hours with a blow torch and paint scraper to make a car less original, less correct?! All the factory seams and welds are readily observable. No rust hiding here! The front and rear suspension was completely rebuilt. A brand new concours caliber Gardner exhaust graces factory hangers. Transmission and rear are original. The Dana 60 runs stock 3:54 gears. They decided not to replicate every paint inspection and paint dab. If you want to make her a full time show pony, that can be handled in a few hours by a knowledgeable shop. All new brake and fuel lines were run. Factory brakes were rebuilt to OE specifications. The front and rear wheels are the correct, original “H” wheels shod in Coker factory production redline tires. The car presents with no hub caps (which WAS a factory option in '68).

She is documented by complete living owner history and the original fender tag. She shows 42,xxx on the odometer, which is actual according to the full chain of ownership. This restoration was completed in late 2008 and has a mere 50 miles on it. Priced as she is, this is certainly a case of paying for the restoration and getting the car for free. Depending on what source your cite, there were between 5 and 8 black HEMI 4spd hardtop Roadrunners produced in 1968. If you are looking for an opportunity to buy a truly rare and remarkable Mopar, this is the time and THIS is the car.
