1969 GTX Convertible 440, Brochure Colors, Power Windows, Console, Air Grabber!

Formerly part of the Wellborn Musclecar Museum Collection, this 1969 Plymouth GTX Convertible is an excellent exemplar of a rare and iconic model. A show caliber driver, this vehicle is a linebacker wearing an Armani suit. The 440 cubic inch big block drivetrain, the new-for-1969 Air Grabber performance hood, hood stripes, lower body blackout, power options, black convertible top, and Red accented Silver Metallic body work all converge to create one of the most desirably optioned B-bodies Mother Mopar ever made.

The numbers matching 440ci power plant and floor console-shifted 727 Automatic are in excellent mechanical condition. The original interior is overall shows very good, with an even patina consistent with a vehicle well cared for. The cabin is replete with black bucket seats, adjustable head rests, wood-grain applique accents, an automatic floor shift, an in-dash tachometer, a 150-MPH speedometer, and power windows. Provenance is supported with factory Broadcast Sheet and previous ownership history.

Exterior Condition

This GTX has received a previous respray in its original Silver Metallic finish with black and red trim. Overall condition of the finish has been well preserved and retains a factory level gloss, with trim included as ordered new. Original brightwork has held up quite well with only slight aging and opportunities for improvement visible in small areas. Glass, high touch hardware items and top are very well preserved and largely original with minimal wear visible. The optional Air Grabber hood and Rallye Road Wheels enhance the high optioned appearance of this GTX Convertible.

Engine Bay Condition

Beneath the Air Grabber hood lies the legendary and potent 440ci High-Performance engine with four barrel carburetor. All engine bay components are as original and show little use, with only mechanical upkeep evident. The engine is mated to a Heavy Duty 727 TorqueFlite automatic transmission. All components function as they should and present well as original, showing little degradation to normal aging and results of high-level care and in recent years, primarily displayed as a museum show car.

Interior Condition

The black interior is well presented with minor wear showing in high touch areas and very small imperfections from little but normal use in recent years. Seats are in very good condition and as original, as is the carpeting and dashboard. All switchgear, gauges, lights, and controls work as they should, as do the window and door controls. Slight degradation from normal aging is beginning to show in the original rubber seals, but all are in tact. Glass is also original and largely unmarked. Light age degradation is evident in small, correctable areas of interior trim.

Chassis and Undercarriage Condition

Undercarriage and chassis components show normal wear consistent with road use but are original to the car and undamaged. There is no rust or corrosion damage evident. Steering and suspension function properly as do the brakes and chassis components. The car currently rides on 17" 5-spoke wheels and Redline Radials, visually similar to the factory issued fare. The originally optioned 5-spoke Road Wheels and Redline Poly-glass have been set aside and are included in the sale. Presentation of the undercarriage shows limited road use and evidence of a primary museum display car that carries its patina well.

Collectability

This GTX combines the big block drivetrain with a convertible top with an attractive color combination to deliver a highly desirable collector car that can also be enjoyed on the road. As a result of its desirability and rarity, this car exceeds similar vehicles in its significance and investment potential. The GTX comes with documentation including original build sheet, various receipts, and logs of work performed, partial ownership history including the previous owner's hand written notes and previous titles and registrations, along with show judging score sheets.
