'70 Shelby GT500 428 Super Cobra Jet, Drag Pack

Meet the biggest, baddest Shelby made in 1970, the Shelby Mustang GT500 Super Cobra Jet, Drag Pack. #0961 was born equipped with Gulfstream Aqua paint, White Interior, Tinted Glass, Automatic Transmission, 3.91:1 Drag Package. She is fully restored, retains her original drivetrain, has a clean SAAC Registry history and is very well documented. Recently inspected by a SAAC Judge, the report is available upon request. Just like the Drag Package Mustang Mach1's, the designation also earned the car the baddest big block ever to sit between the fenders of a Mustang, the 428 Super Cobra Jet. This race bred 428 was designed for the rigors of the drag strip, crank, rods, pistons, flywheel/flexplate, and harmonic balancer were all designed to withstand the higher RPM's. The 428 Super Cobra Jet also used race-proven 427 "LeMans" capscrew connecting rods instead of the standard press-fit bolt and nut to retain the rod cap. In true Drag Pack fashion, oil cooler is present and accounted for, the car's horns moved to one side to accommodate it. Ford severely underrated this mill at 335hp, actual output was around 410hp! Of all the colors that one could order in 1970, Gulfstream Aqua over White Compfortweave Interior, is perhaps the most stunning combinations you could order. According to the inspector, all the body panels and fiberglass is original to the car, very difficult to find on a Shelby of any era. The only notable omissions on the car are the lack of black hood stripes and front spoiler. These 1970 specific appearance items were left off the car as personal preference by the current owner. The list of items that may cost one points for concours judging is a short one. The car is rolling on poly-glass F60 Raised White Letter tires and should be wearing E70 black-walls. The carb seems dated a tad early for the build date of the vehicle and is missing the manual choke conversion. Even with those things considered, this Drag Pack Shelby was awarded SAAC DIV II Concours Gold in 2000 at Watkins Glen, NY and has been well maintained; stored in climate controlled environment since then. Documentation includes Shelby Registry entry, Shelby Automotive Advance Shipper, Dealer Order Sheet, and Original Build Sheet. This Super Cobra Jet GT500 belongs in any serious Shelby collection.
