1968 Dodge Charger R/T, Nut and Bolt Built HEMI 4-spd

Who hasn't daydreamed of chasing through the cityscape in a '68 HEMI Charger R/T, looking up in the rearview mirror to make sure Frank Bullitt is still well behind you? While most genuine "J" code Hemi Charger R/T's end up in private collections, relegated to holding down a section of pavement, this is one that you will likely just keep in the driveway, quickly becoming your favorite car to drive. Born a 318, Automatic car, she now sports a complete era correct 426 HEMI drivetrain, from the Carter AFB Carbs, right through to the A833 Pistol Grip 4-spee and 3.54 Dana 60 rear end. This one was taken down to bare metal and treated to complete nut and bolt rotisserie restoration. Finished in FE5 Rally Red, the quality of workmanship rivals that of many cars relegated to Concours trailer queen duty.

Pete Tritak's shop, of “War Wagon” drag racing fame, was tasked with the engine built. The engine was balance and blue printed, designed to appear OE Correct on the outside, with internals machined and engineered to kick out 500-600hp on pump gas. The transmission and rear were likewise built to handle the horsepower. The rest of the engine bay sub-assemblies were also restored, using new wiring harnesses, rebuilt wiper motor, master cylinder, etc.

The donor car was chosen because it was a solid specimen to begin with. It was nonetheless taken down to bare metal and built back up again. This included all new seals and soft trim, glass where needed, all stainless, grill and tail trim were also restored at the time of restoration.

The interior is likewise all new, interior panels, soft trim, foams, dash. Gauges, climate controls, and audio accessories were rebuilt, using new wiring harnesses. Everything works.

The undercarriage was done “over the top” in the same FE5 paint as the top. Suspension, drivetrain, braking and fuel system are all new. If you are looking for a turn-key ready HEMI Charger you can actually drive and enjoy without “driving the investment value out of it”, here it is.

Keep your J code in the private museum and take this one out on the road, point the nose and the horizon. Don't worry, that Highland Green Mustang will stay in the rearview...

Conditional Grade

Excellent Plus
90%-96% of showroom condition. Exceptionally nice. May have slight wear on exterior and interior finishes but visible only under close inspection consistent with years of show detailing, climate controlled storage, enclosed transport, and indoor display. Most cars in this class are not driven more than a few miles per year.

Overall Originality

A mostly outwardly stock appearing car, usually restored with drivetrain and performance components upgrade with bolt-on performance enhancing parts. Could extend to a full drivetrain and suspension swap working within the constraints of the stock frame and sheet metal. These modifications are largely reversible without cutting or welding.
